BRENDA NAPHOLZ

PRESIDENT

Brenda has lived in the McHenry County community since 1992. She has spent that time raising her family and staying actively involved in projects that empower our youth. The BREAK is a special project that she and a group of sophomores from Crystal Lake South High School began in January 2013. Watching the community and the youth evolve into a partnership of empowerment has been a highlight of her work in the community. She holds her B.A. in Biology with a minor in Psychology from Drake University. She is co-owner of Fast Finish Coaching, loves running, reading and spending time with her family.

PATTI NOBLE

DIRECTOR

Patti lived in Crystal Lake from 1993-1998 and returned with her family in 2008. She has dedicated much of her time to raising her two boys while still being active in the community. She has been involved with the Break since its conception. With a Degree in Public Relations and special training in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault crisis and prevention work, she brings a variety of skills to the organization. She is working toward her goals to bring more awareness, prevention and education programs to youth and adults in McHenry County. Patti’s interests include running, party planning and creating all natural skin care products and remedies using essential oils.

Beckie Sullivan

BOARD MEMBER

Beckie lives in McHenry with her husband and their four children ranging in ages from 5 to 19. She has worked at Marshall Wolf Automation in Algonquin since 1994 and manages their eCommerce division. As a graduate of LGMC (Leadership Greater McHenry County) she learned about the board opening at The Break from them in the summer of 2020 and joined that August. She looks forward to learning more about The Break and being a part of its exciting future! Beckie loves to run, is trying to learn to draw and is very involved in her local Catholic community as well. She especially enjoys teaching religious education; 2nd graders are her favorite age to teach.

Kristine Hartman

DIRECTOR

Having been a resident of Crystal Lake for over 24 years, Kristine has been involved in the community while raising her family.  Kristine has a particular passion for the youth of our community and has been a Girl Scout leader and instructed children in religious studies.  Kristine joined the Crystal Lake Teen Center Board in 2014 and maintains a position as the Board Secretary. It has been it has been a pleasure to see the growing community support for The Break.  She is currently employed with a mortgage financial institution with a Finance Degree.

Michelle Mangin

SECRETARY

Michelle lives in Crystal Lake with her husband and two teenagers. Soon after moving to the area in 2018, Michelle was looking for activities for her youngest child and was so grateful to find the BREAK that she wanted to help support the mission in whatever way she could. Michelle has a degree in Journalism, but spent most of her career in corporate training and development management. Even after staying at home to raise a family, Michelle has been actively involved in every community she has lived, and currently serves as president of a nonprofit supporting local mothers.

Adam Brady

TREASURER

Adam has lived in the McHenry County area since 2001 with his wife and three kids between the ages of 14-21. He has been involved in non-profit organizations since 2013, and having two teenagers finds the mission of the Break a much needed one in this community. He graduated from Illinois State with a Sociology degree and is currently an Account Lead in Technology Sales. He enjoys sports, music and good food.

Abbigail Wember

DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND MARKETING

Abbigail Wember recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a BA in Journalism, Advertising & Media Studies with applied focuses in Public Relations and Communication. As the new marketing and social media director, she will be working closely with Mandy Jagarnauth, Health Promotion Manager and Brenda Napholz, Board President. Dependability, kindness, and versatility are 3 qualities that help to define who she is to the core. Professional and personal experiences over the years have allowed her to develop her natural talents which are creativity, the ability to entertain and engage a crowd, public speaking skills, social media marketing and management, a knack for building meaningful relationships with colleagues, and teamwork. She spends her free time with family, friends, and enjoys doing (almost) any activity you can think of.

Mandy Jagarnauth

HEALTH PROMOTION MANAGER

As the new Health Promotion Manager, Mandy will team up with organizations in the community to create structured programs to keep teens in the communities safe, including recreational events and expansion of programs for the alumni group. Mandy has 12 years of experience with people of all ages with different abilities in recreational settings. Her experiences include program development, staff training, relationship building, behavioral management, life skills training, and leadership. She also have experience with instructing resume writing, mock interviewing, and job coaching. Mandy, who is expecting twins in March, spends her free time with her husband and two pups, taking photos and trying out new restaurants.

Jim Schwertfeger

VOLUNTEER

Jim Schwertfeger, former Captain of the Guard, has been an integral part of The Break for over 4 years. Jim started as a volunteer and stepped in as interim manager after the previous manager took another job. His service at the BREAK has proven to be invaluable and the BREAK Board asked him to commit to a permanent position as manager/program coordinator. He worked closely with Brenda Napholz, BREAK Board President, and has helped develop programs and processes over the past 4 years. Prior to working at the BREAK, he has worked for various companies and schools such as Consumer Education Systems, Machinima, Malia Designs, Element Animation, and Harper College. Jim recently stepped down from his position to focus on his full time career as an animator. He has promised to volunteer whenever possible.

Holly Eberle

VOLUNTEER

Holly has been with The Break since October 2015 and is the Youth Technology Librarian at the Algonquin Area Public Library District. She has a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from UIUC, a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from UIC, and is a member of Leadership Greater McHenry County Class of 2018. She lives in Cary now but grew up in Crystal Lake and graduated from South High School in 2009. Interests include supporting local music, yoga, exploring the outdoors, and excessive amounts of reading.
