President Brenda Napholz
Brenda has lived in the community for over 24 years. She has spent that time raising her family and staying actively involved in projects that empower our youth. The BREAK is a special project that she and a group of sophomores from Crystal Lake South High School began in January 2013. Watching the community and the youth evolve into a partnership of empowerment has been a highlight of her work in the community. She holds her B.A. in Biology with a minor in Psychology from Drake University. She is co-owner of Fast Finish Coaching, loves running, reading and spending time with her family.
Vice President Kate Halma
Originally from Chicago, Kate has called McHenry County home since 1988. She and her husband Kirk live in Woodstock where they each run their own businesses. Kirk is a certified professional dog trainer which often results in a house full of furry children! Kate is a marketing executive for an international wellness company, a certified yoga instructor, and a motivational facilitator, which rounds off her services in health and wellness at Motivate with Kate! Prior to moving to Woodstock, Kate lived in Des Moines where she earned her MA in Broadcast Journalism from Drake University while working as a Residence Hall Director. She earned her BA from Western Illinois University where she discovered her passion for youth leadership as an orientation leader. When not teaching yoga or training in consumer education, Kate is busy being the “best aunt in the world!” Most under the age of 25 call her Aunt Kate, and for that she is most proud.
Director Patti Noble
Patti lived in Crystal Lake from 1993-1998 and returned with her family in 2008. She has dedicated much of her time to raising her two boys while still being active in the community. She has been involved with the Break since its conception. With a Degree in Public Relations and special training in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault crisis and prevention work, she brings a variety of skills to the organization. She is working toward her goals to bring more awareness, prevention and education programs to youth and adults in McHenry County. Patti’s interests include running, party planning and creating all natural skin care products and remedies using essential oils.
Director Jessica Culbertson
Having grown up in the Crystal Lake area, Jessica was excited to find out about the Break and the opportunities it provides for teenagers in the area. Jessica went to Hope College and received a degree in social work and Spanish and returned to the area after to begin her career. She is currently a certified domestic violence professional and passionate about working with youth. If she isn't at work, you can probably find her playing with her dogs, Frankie and Freddie.
Director Carlyn Housh
Carlyn Housh is a social worker in the community. In 2014, she graduated with her masters in social work from George Williams College. Currently, Carlyn is working with foster children and Centegra Health System. When she is not giving back to the community, Carlyn spends time with her family and friends.
Director Sean Schipper
Sean has resided in Crystal Lake since 2001, Father of four children ages spanning from 38 to 15 years old. Sean has amassed a great deal of work & life experience throughout his life from Cub Scout leader to C.O.O. Some notable experiences consist of working with disabled population by producing custom wheel chairs and wheel chair cushions for the severely handicapped at Pin Dot Products which had later been acquired by Invacare. Sean also spent 3 years at Countryside Associate in Palatine IL serving a population of 350 plus Persons with Developmental Disabilities as Operations Manager & Marketing Manager with a mission to advocate on behalf of persons with disabilities and their families and to support them in their efforts to live and work successfully in their chosen community. Sean has been employed by Aeromax Inc. as C.O.O since 1999 operating a local small business which wholesales children’s products with an emphasis of building and growing the self-esteem of children one child at a time. Sean is grateful to have the opportunity to assist in the guidance of a community based organization that has recognized a missing component within our community and which has risen to the occasion to address our community’s needs for a place to further foster the social development of our teens.
Treasurer Mike Murdock
Mike has served as Treasurer on our board since 2015 and he and his family have made Crystal Lake their home since 1995. In addition to volunteering in various community organizations over the years, his most recent efforts were for the Boy Scouts of America and the United Way of Greater McHenry County. Mike is a Director of Supply Chain at Motorola Solutions and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida.
Secretary Kristine Hartman
Having been a resident of Crystal Lake for over 24 years, Kristine has been involved in the community while raising her family. Kristine has a particular passion for the youth of our community and has been a Girl Scout leader and instructed children in religious studies. Kristine joined the Crystal Lake Teen Center Board in 2014 and maintains a position as the Board Secretary. It has been it has been a pleasure to see the growing community support for The Break. She is currently employed with a mortgage financial institution with a Finance Degree.
Manager/Volunteer Holly Eberle
Holly has been with The Break since October 2015 and is also a youth librarian at the Crystal Lake Public Library. She has a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from UIUC and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from UIC. She has lived in Crystal Lake for the majority of her life and graduated from South High School in 2009. She loves spending time outdoors with her cat, Oy, listening to music, running, reading and doing yoga.
Manager/Volunteer Jim Schwertfeger
Jim has been a part of The Break for just under 3 years. He has worked for various companies and schools such as Consumer Education Systems, Machinima, and Harper College. He holds a Bachelor of Digital Arts from the Illinois Institute of Art. When he's not working on a business-related or personal animation project, he enjoys hiking, biking, traveling, PC Gaming, and volunteering his time with groups like the Hooved Animal Rescue and Protection Society.
